ShinHyung Kim

Photo.jpgShinHyung Kim, originally from South Korea, is currently pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy at the University of Iowa, where she studies piano with Dr. Ksenia Nosikova. She is currently working as an accompanist for University of Iowa Youth Ballet at the University of Iowa and a piano instructor at the Willowwind School. Recently, she won the first place at the American Protégé International Piano and String Competition 2019. In 2018, she also won the second prize in the United States International Piano Duo Competition. In addition, she was a finalist in the MTNA–Stecher and Horowitz Two Piano Competition. From 2015 to 2018, she served as a teaching assistant at the University of Iowa. She also had a master class with professor Blanca Uribe, and attended a music festival, Musikfest (Faribault, Minnesota) in 2016. She has also given numerous solo and chamber recitals, and a lecture recital at several venues including the University of Northern Iowa, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, the Oaknoll Retirement Community, the Mercy Hospital, Melrose Meadows Retirement Community, the United Methodist Church (Washington, IA), and the Maquoketa Art Experience Maquoketa (Maquoketa, IA).

She earned her Bachelor degree in Piano Performance from the Chung-Ang University in 2011. During her undergraduate years, she studied piano with Prof. Chiho Cho and earned the Honor Scholarships which were only given to three outstanding students. In 2007, she performed in the concert for excellent freshmen students. In 2009, she won the Second Prize of Haneum Piano Duo Competition. She performed Mozart Piano Concerto No. 9 in Eb Major with National Symphony Orchestra. After earning her B.M. degree in piano performance from Chung-Ang University, ShinHyung Kim moved to the United States. She earned her Master’s degree in Piano Performance at the Michigan State University, studying with Professor Deborah Moriarty. While studying at the Michigan State University, she got the the music scholarships and fellowship. She had performed several solo recitals including Greater Lansing Community Concert Series and worked as accompanist for youth choir at Community Music School in East Lansing. In 2014, she participated in the master classes at Centro Studi Carlo Della Giocoma in Todi, Italy.
